John McCain

Though he isn't who I support as far as a candidate. I must admit I have great respect for the man, or at least his pre-election persona.

I'm sure some of you will disagree with me but before the election he was the only Republican I would have ever considered voting for. I don't agree with him on quite a few issues: he's pro-life and anti-civil unions.

But there there are many issues I do agree with him on: Pro-gun control, pro-campaign finance reform (McCain-Feingold Act), Anti-'enhanced interrogation', and Pro-immigration. I also agree with him on matters regarding social matters-

'Neither party should be defined by pandering to the outer reaches of American politics and the agents of intolerance, whether they be Louis Farrakhan and Al Sharpton on the left, or Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell on the right.'

Until he decided to speak at Liberty University, founded by Falwell, his long time friend, Jon Stewart, confronted him on The Daily Show by saying-

'You're not freaking out on us? Are you freaking out on us, because if you're freaking out and you're going into the crazy base [politics] world— are you going into crazy base world?'

To which he replied-

'I'm afraid so.'

I conclusion, when I look at the Republican party I see a festering sty of fat pigs in fancy suits, throwing around money and double standards, but when I look at John McCain I see at least a hint of respect. A person willing to go against the mainstream of his party to do what he believes is right (even if it's not my belief). At leasts before the election.
